5 Superfoods You Can Squeeze Into Your Life

superfoods, food, nutrients, diet

A 'superfood' is a nutrient-rich food that is said to be hugely beneficial to health and wellbeing. They're full of antioxidants [the bodies defence agents, shielding our body from cell damage and help prevent disease] and loaded with fibre, vitamins and minerals. Although there is no official evidence, reports claim that some superfoods can help fight illness and disease, slow down ageing, help you lose weight, better digestion and that's just a few of the amazing benefits they are reported to have.
Of course, we know that the healthiest diet is one full of nutritious foods with plenty of fruit and veg, but it won't hurt to follow up on these reports and try to get a few 'superfoods' into our diet, right?
Sometimes we can find it difficult to ensure we're eating healthy enough. Busy lifestyles can often mean we choose less healthy options or that we feel we don't have the time to prepare healthy meals.
So, I've put together this list of 5 superfoods and ways in which you can easily squeeze them into your life, no excuses!

You're welcome! ;)

superfoods, food, nutrients, diet

1. Blueberries
These powerful little berries contain antioxidants known for their anti-ageing effects, they are also said to help protect against diseases such as cancer, and are bursting with fibre. They are linked to heart health and studies even show they could even improve your memory!
- Add them to yoghurt, porridge or other breakfasts
- Throw them in a smoothie
- Add them to water for a fruit infused drink
- Like baking? Add them to your cake or bread recipe
- Eat them as a quick snack
pure chimp, matcha, green tea, superfoods
2. Matcha Green Tea
Matcha is a special kind of green tea, from Japan. With matcha, you are ingesting the entire leaf, so in turn receive 100% of the nutrients. It contains 137 times more antioxidants than regular green tea. It boosts metabolism and burns calories, is full of vitamin c, magnesium and more, and is said to detox, strengthen the immune system as well as boost energy levels.
- Use a whisk or frother and drink as a 'thick' tea
- Add to yoghurt or milk
- Add to a smoothie
- Sprinkle a dusting of matcha onto porridge / pancakes, etc .
- Use matcha to season foods instead of salt & pepper or stir into stock
You can order matcha from just £6.95 from PureChimp. Read more about PureChimp and Matcha Green Tea here.
3. Broccoli
These amazing little 'midget trees', as The Body Coach would say, are full of fibre and phytonutrients that are said to reduce risk of cancer and suppress growth of tumours. It also contains a nice dose of folic acid and vitamin C.
- Steam and add to many evening meals
- Throw into a pasta dish
- Add to a stir fry
PandaVita, baobab, superfood
4. Baobab
The African fruit baobab is packed with nutritional goodness. Apparently it contains six times more vitamin C than oranges, more antioxidants than berries and more calcium than milk. Africans enjoy eating it straight from the shell, while us Brits can enjoy it in the form of powder. It can improve your mood, increase energy levels and helps with weight loss.
- Add the powder to cakes and other desserts
- Add to water to make a citrusy drink
- Sprinkle some in a smoothie
You can order packets of baobab powder for as little as £4.99, from PandaVita. You can read more about PandaVita and the benefits of baobab powder here.
5. Oats
A rich source of fibre, magnesium [which helps regulate blood sugar levels], potassium and phytonutrients, oats are also a healthy carb that boosts metabolism, lowers cholesterol levels and burns fat. Apparently they can also improve the condition of your skin and help diabetes.
- Make a yummy, filling porridge for breakfast
- Add them to a breakfast smoothie
- Bake some yummy biscuits or a pie!
I've been adding all FIVE to a breakfast smoothie for us all. It's a quick yummy smoothie for breakfast, or even just a snack. It tastes great, it's super quick to make. I can make it up in bulk and keep it in the fridge for a yummy drink throughout the day and it's full packed with nutrients and SUPERFOODS! It's a great way to get them into the families diet!

  1. I'm a huge fan of blueberries - I love them with vanilla yoghurt, or just on their own as a snack. The more exotic superfoods I've not tried though, but I keep hearing great things about Matcha green tea! #KCACOLS

  2. Some great tips! I am a massive fan of oats, broccoli and blueberries. They are staples in our house. I haven't heard baobab - I'll have to look into that. I tried matcha tea once and wasn't sure. I'll have to give it another go! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. #KCACOLS

    1. I'm not a big green tea fan either, so have it in a smoothie or in yoghurt or porridge or something, you won't taste it but still be getting the goodness! ;)

  8. Matcha green tea is always a pretty good one as you can add it to things without feeling like you're eating it much x

    1. Definitely! It can be added to so many different meals and drinks!

  9. I love eating healthy and clean although I have to admit I have never really done powders. I do use Chia seeds and Linseeds but these powders sound really interesting and an easy way to include into your diet

  14. I'm such a huge fan of blueberries - it's great to hear how good they are for you! Now if only I could get some really fresh ones in the winter...

  17. You have reminded me that I have several sachets of Baobab powder which I bought at the Eden Project but have been to wimpy to try! #KCACOLS
